Directions

From Jackson: go west on I-20. Take exit 3, Indiana Ave.  Turn left at the light to cross over I-20.  Continue south on Indiana to the 4-way stop at Porter's Chapel Rd.  Turn left and go 1 mile.  PCA will be on the right, down the hill.  You will turn down the driveway in front of PCA Day Care.

From west of the Mississippi River: Continue east on I-20.  Take exit 3, Indiana Avenue and turn right at the stop sign.  Continue south on Indiana to the 4-way stop at Porter's Chapel Rd.  Turn left and go 1 mile.  PCA will be on the right, down the hill.  You will turn down the driveway in front of PCA Day Care.

Accreditation

PCA is accredited by the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).  The Accreditation Commission of the MPSA was established to develop, evaluate and maintain standards which would be used in determining the qualifications for accreditation.  Status is determined annually by the commission.

PCA holds the highest accreditation (AA) offered by the MPSA in both the elementary and secondary divisions and is subject to all policies thereof.

Curriculum

The PCA curriculum is designed to emphasize the fundamentals for a sound, college preparatory education.

Elementary level (grades K-6) emphasis is Reading, Language, Arithmetic, Science, Social Studies, and Bible.  Students take special classes each week including physical education, music (K-5), beginning band (6th), art, computer and library.  The D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) program provides for two scheduled recreational reading periods each week and earns credit toward grades in reading.  In addition, the Accelerated Reader program is provided through the library. 

Junior High (grades 7-8) emphasis is: Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and Bible.  Electives available include Band, Music Appreciation, Computer Applications, Athletics and Drama.

High School (grades 9-12) offers the following courses :

Football, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Track, Soccer, Golf, Cross Country, and Cheerleading are offered to all junior and senior high students.

 

MPSA Academic Competitions

Junior high and high school are required to prepare a science project to compete in the Science Fair.  The MPSA sponsors the Academic Betterment Competition in the spring as well as Art contests for elementary and secondary.

Service Projects

Two school-wide service projects were conducted throughout the year.  Elementary students raised money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital by participating in the St. Jude's Math-a-Thon.  During November, students collected food items and made food baskets.  Baskets were distributed to families who were recommended by students, parents and community service organizations
